Annual Report Form Due (see association operations below)

    April 15th
Philanthropy Report Form Due to Alpha Delta Pi Foundation

    June 27 – July 1
ADPi Grand Convention – Danvers, MA

Letter from the International Vice President of Alumnae Membership

    Dear Association Officers and Members,

Thank you for the countless hours you contribute to Alpha Delta Pi. Your service as alumnae through various roles including association officers, committee chairs, chapter advisors, and house corporation members is most appreciated.

Some very important information was shared with chapters and advisors at our six District Leadership Conferences last month, and I want to make sure you are also aware. The first is what’s going on in Congress. For several years the fraternal world has been lobbying in Washington to pass the Housing and Infrastructure Act, which would allow tax deductible contributions to be given to fraternal educational foundations and passed on to house corporations for improvements in chapter houses. Right now the only money which can be passed on from educational foundations must be used for “educational” areas of the house. Many of our houses need sprinkler systems installed, and other improvements which do not qualify for improvements to educational areas. The goal is to get enough legislators to sponsor the new 2007 bill so it can be brought forward for Congressional action.

All of us need to help with this effort. Beginning on February 28, 2007, you can log on to fraternalcaucus.com and the web site provides you with a simple way to send a letter to your individual senators and representative. Last legislative session Alpha Delta Pi sent over 900 letters—this time we need to send at least 2,000 letters by April 1, 2007. If you sent a letter previously, we need you to write a new letter as the old bill died with the former Congress. Please go to fraternalcaucus.com and follow the instructions to get these letters sent AND be sure to check the box to send copies of the letter back to The Fraternal Caucus so Alpha Delta Pi will receive credit.

Please closely read the information about the use of licensed vendors. Many alumnae associations use local vendors to produce shirts, favors, etc. using the sorority’s marks. To protect our marks, it is vital that we only use licensed vendors. As the article points out, the process to become a licensed vendor is very simple. Using licensed vendors not only protects our marks, it also works to ensure our marks are used in an appropriate manner.

It is an honor serving with you.

Loyally, Lorraine Testa, International Vice President of Alumnae Membership

Annual Alumnae Association International Bill Due

Invoices were sent to your Association Treasurers in October. The bill was due November 15th. As of this publication date, 96 of our 140 chartered alumnae associations have paid their fees. Both the Service and Anniversary Fees must be paid for the current and preceding year to be eligible to send a voting delegate and to qualify for Alumnae Association Awards at the 2007 Grand Convention. Please double check with your treasurer to see that your association has paid the fees. If your group has not paid, late fees now also apply as the due date of November 15th has passed.

    Did you ReMember?

It’s time to ReMember Alpha Delta Pi. Please encourage all of your alumnae to pay their voluntary dues. The funds support the services and programs we offer our members that can not be underwritten by the Foundation. This year we are offering the opportunity to pay your ReMember Dues Online! Go to www.alphadeltapi.org and click on “ReMember Dues” or “Payments and Donations” at the bottom of the page. Payments are accepted by credit card or e-check.

    Affinity Program/Licensed Vendors

Alpha Delta Pi symbols, such as our name, Greek letters, coat of arms, badge and lion logo are federally registered trademarks, just as are the marks of companies and institutions such as Nike’s slash and the mascots of universities and professional sports teams. Alpha Delta Pi is one of many Greek organizations that have entered into a trademark licensing agreement with Affinity Marketing Consultants (AMC). All commercial use of Alpha Delta Pi trademarks must be administered through a license agreement with Alpha Delta Pi. Chapters, alumnae associations, house corporations and/or individual members do not own the sorority’s marks and do not have the right to authorize vendors to use them. If we allow non-licensed vendors to use our marks, we jeopardize our exclusive right to use and protect them.

Many alumnae associations use local vendors. It is easy for vendors to become licensed—there is a small annual fee (currently $45) and a standard contract which they will need to sign. Licensed vendors are provided with copies of our trademarks for their use. We also support them with marketing efforts. They then pay Alpha Delta Pi a small percentage of their gross sales for use of the marks and access to our members. We use the revenue in many ways, including furthering the protection of our marks, which prevents the production of undesirable products. Vendors should contact Executive Director Linda Ablard, lablard@alphadeltapi.com, to become licensed.

To shop for official Alpha Delta Pi products, visit our entire list of licensed vendors at greeklicensing.com. Here you can access a national network of vendors and get multiple quotes for your custom order needs. When shopping for Alpha Delta Pi merchandise, look for the logo above.

E-mail your Alumnae Directors. They can provide you with contact information for sisters in your area. Scroll down for a list of Alumnae Directors by district.

Annual Report Forms – Due April 1st.

As this is a Convention year – all Annual Report forms (and Service/ Anniversary Fees) must be to Executive Office for eligibility for awards. We suggest that when completing the Annual Report form you consider listing all events that happened since April 1 of 2006 through March 2007. Don’t forget to include newsletters, event calendar and membership directory if you haven’t previously sent them to your Alumnae Director.

The updated version of the report form is available on the Alpha Delta Pi web site at www.alphadeltapi.org. Log on to My Alpha Delta Pi/ Pride Online, click on Alumnae Association Resources, click on Alumnae Association Forms.

Forms were also sent to you via regular mail from Executive Office in February. If you don’t think you will get your report in on time – please send your Alumnae Director a quick e-mail.

The South Palm Beach (FL) Alumnae Association participated in this fundraiser with both a financial contribution and “women power”.

The Tallahassee (FL) Alumnae Association hosted an open house at a store that sells Vera Bradley in November 2006. The association invited the sisters of Iota chapter, Florida State University. The store donated a percentage of their sales that night. In addition, raffle tickets were sold to win a set of Vera raising $1,000.

The newest District I alumnae association is Grand Strand (SC). This group of Pi’s is meeting regularly in preparation for the installation of our newest chapter at Coastal Carolina. The association already has 24 members.

The Charleston (SC) Alumnae Association is meeting regularly and membership continues to increase.

The Jackson (MS) Alumnae Association held a fundraiser for Eta Zeta chapter at the University of Southern Mississippi. Members sold adorable Alpha Delta Pi boxes that were hand painted and signed by local artist Gail Pittman. The association is still taking orders for these boxes.

To place an order, send $35 per box to:
Alpha Delta Pi Jackson Alumnae Association
    Margaret Jones
    106 Red Oak Trail
    Brandon, MS 39047

Be sure to include your shipping address and email address.

The North Alabama (Tennessee Valley) Alumnae Association held a successful 10th Annual Zeta Eta Chapter/Alumnae Christmas Tea on December 3. There was a large turn out and many gifts were collected for the 4 FOCAL children the association supported for Christmas. Additionally, the association’s first quarter meeting will be for officer elections for 2007-08. The association is working with Zeta Eta chapter, University of North Alabama, with their 3rd Annual Run for Ronald on March 17, 2007.

    District II

The Upper Cumberland (TN) Alumnae Association membership has been growing this past year. The members assisted Epsilon Psi, Tennessee Technological University with a recruitment workshop and provided dinner. The members made candy bags for the Ronald McDonald House and had a fun Christmas party with an ornament exchange.

The Raleigh (NC) Alumnae Association had fun at Amazing Glaze, where members decorated their own ceramic masterpiece. In late November the association hosted a joint ornament exchange with the Durham/Chapel Hill (NC) Alumnae Association to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Members met for dinner and fellowship at Johnny Carino’s in Briar Creek. The Raleigh Alumnae Association held the annual Christmas luncheon at Carolina Country Club. As always, much thanks goes to Chris Lortz for sponsoring them at the club again this year. Donations for the Ronald McDonald House were collected. The January meeting was at Dinners at Home store. Since the local Ronald McDonald House is in great need of meals that can be frozen to serve later, the association met to put together meals to donate to the House.

The Central Kentucky Alumnae Association teamed up with Beta Psi, University of Kentucky, Epsilon Phi, Eastern Kentucky University, and Eta Omega, Centre College, to hold a Fall tailgating event at the Keeneland Racetrack. They also celebrated Beta Psi's 65th anniversary during this time.

The Knoxville (TN) Alumnae Association met at a Creating Dinner store in November, where they made meals to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. All the recipes, ingredients, pots, and pans are at the store ready for use. The host chef demonstrates how to prepare everything. It's almost like an interactive cooking show! The association also held the annual holiday party. Everyone brought an appetizer, salad or dessert, along with a wrapped ornament for a special game. In addition, several association members are currently involved in heading a housing committee charged with raising approximately $1 million to build a sorority house for Alpha Kappa chapter at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Anyone interesting in donating money to the cause should contact Cheryl Kizer-Sharpe, Alpha Kappa, at TSharpe007@aol.com or by calling (865) 692-8777.

For the Louisville (KY) Alumnae Association, nothing kicks the holiday season off on a better note than their annual dinner and ornament exchange at The Corner Café. Each member brings a wrapped/bagged ornament worth between $5 to $10 to exchange.

The Nashville (TN) Alumnae Association met at Second Harvest Food Bank's "Gourmet Friday" First Harvest Café, where an All You Can Eat for $10 meal is available with $5 going to Second Harvest. Members took canned goods to donate to Second Harvest. The November Lunch Bunch was held at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center Café with a tour of the facilities after lunch. In November members held a mock recruitment for the Zeta Rho chapter, Vanderbilt University, and also participated in a joint self-defense program with the chapter. In December the association held the annual holiday party and gift auction. Each member is asked to bring a gift for the auction (worth $25 or less) with the value and a fun hint about the contents written on the outside of the package. A professional auctioneer helps with this event and funds collected benefit a local charity.

Several members from the Charlotte (NC) Alumnae Association worked as volunteers for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light The Night. This was in conjunction with the Charlotte Alumnae Panhellenic. One of their members, Erin Alfaro, is the new President of the Charlotte Alumnae Panhellenic. The November meeting was at the Melting Pot. At the Christmas Party members brought canned goods or other nonperishable foods which were donated to Loaves and Fishes, an area food bank. The book club started in January.

The Memphis (TN) Alumnae Association participated in several activities with the Gamma Eta chapter, University of Memphis, including an ice cream social, Race for the Cure, and an annual alumnae-collegian holiday party. The association brought an item of the month to each meeting to help stock the Ronald McDonald House pantry. Members had a fun happy hour and bowling night with their significant others and painted pottery at Seize the Clay. Association members took down all of the holiday decorations at the Ronald McDonald House.

    District III

In the true spirit of sisterhood, several members of the Garden State (NJ), Wilmington (DE) and Greater Philadelphia Alumnae Associations reached out to help Eta Chi chapter, Villanova University, during their recruitment in mid January.

The Washington (DC) Alumnae Association kicked off the New Year with a monthly happy hour at Ozio and will gather for a cooking lesson later in the month. Email: wdcadpi@yahoo.com

Western CT alumnae elected new officers and Rene Cartagena is the president. The association launched their web site at www.alphadeltapi.org/westernct. E-mail: Alumnaeadpi@yahoo.com

In Boston, alumnae volunteered at the Polar Express event at Gillette Stadium, which was transformed in a scene straight out of the Polar Express movie, benefiting the Brookline & Providence Ronald McDonald Houses. Association members wrapped gifts at Barnes & Nobles during the holiday season to benefit the Brookline Ronald McDonald House. Planning has begun for the 2007 Convention in Danvers, MA, so if any sisters are interested in helping with the event please e-mail the association at bostonadpi@hotmail.com.

Re-Organizing Association: The Richmond (VA) Alumnae Association is re-organizing and has launched a new web site http://www.alphadeltapi.org/richmondva.

    District IV

The Springfield (OH) Alumnae Association recently toured a restored Frank Lloyd Wright home in Springfield. The association supports the Alpha Delta Pi Achievement Award at Chi chapter, Wittenberg University. A scholarship of $1,000.00 is given to a junior at Wittenberg.

The Dayton (OH) Alumnae Association volunteered 100 hours for Hannah’s Treasure Chest, a local non-profit organization.

The Gem City (OH) and Chicago Alumnae Associations balance social activities with business during the year. Most meetings are informal and focus on fun and sisterhood, but they don’t forget to have an annual business meeting to elect officers and plan for the next year. The group’s dynamics make this the ideal situation for them.

    District V

The Beaumont (TX) Alumnae Association started off the new year with a once-a-month book study. The group meets in a reserved room at a coffee shop.

Flower Mound (TX) Alumnae Association is District V’s newest association. Just chartered this Fall, they've already had a trip to the pumpkin patch, a shopping day, and a holiday party.

Northwest Arkansas sisters got together to celebrate Autumn in style. Homecoming with the Delta Delta chapter, University of Arkansas, and a fabulous spa day (complete with chick flicks) were two of the events on their calendar.

    District VI

This Fall, the Los Angeles Alumnae Association hosted both the Alpha Psi, University of Southern California, Alumnae Tea and the Alpha Chi, University of California, Los Angeles, Alumnae Brunch. The events were an opportunity for alumnae to view the houses and renew friendships and for the collegians to perfect their recruitment skills. New members and spouses were welcomed at a Wine and Cheese party in October. Toys were collected for the Ronald McDonald House at the annual holiday party.

At the San Diego Alumnae Association annual holiday party, the White Elephant Gift Exchange featured one gift referred to as THE THING. It has been passed around since the 1960s. The sister that ends up with the gift must sign it and bring it back the next year.

In October, ten alumnae in the Albuquerque (NM) Alumnae Association attended a 90th birthday dinner honoring Alpha Nu alumna Marion Fleck. The party was given by the University of New Mexico College of Nursing which Marion established. Proceeds from the lunch helped to fund a scholarship in her name at the University of New Mexico.
